North Atlantic Fiddle Convention 2018

Organiser: North Atlantic Fiddle Convention, Elphinstone Institute, Scottish Culture and Traditions & University of Aberdeen

 Date:  Wednesday 11th to Sunday 15th July 2018

Description: The North Atlantic Fiddle Convention (NAFCo) is an international festival and academic conference celebrating the many styles of fiddle playing and associated dance traditions that exist around the North Atlantic – the largest event of its kind in the UK!

As a travelling event, NAFCo has been a meeting place for artists, academics and audiences to celebrate different cultures, as well as innovation in tradition.
Having previously taken place in Aberdeen, Derry/Donegal and Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, it sees audiences, musicians and dancers travelling from around the world!

From 11-15 July 2018, NAFCo will return to Aberdeen and the North East, with a packed programme of more than 150 events, including interactive workshops, concerts, interviews, talks, academic papers, film screenings, exhibits, busking, and live-music sessions, featuring over 60 artists representing a variety of fiddle traditions from Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, Scandinavia, Spain, Canada, USA and beyond.

NAFCo visitors can enjoy a concert at one of Aberdeen’s flagship venues, an intimate showcase by candlelight, or kick up their heels at a village ceilidh or the family-friendly Festival club – there is truly something for everyone.

Chill Skills – Age 11-16 Bervie 

Organiser: Relax Kids With Jennifer – Aberdeenshire

Description:  The Workshops have been devised to help raise self-esteem and confidence, support the development of healthy behaviour and help raise the achievement for children.

Each session will incorporate relaxation techniques, positive affirmations, and visualisations, breathing exercises as well as games, massage, exercises and discussion. Topics such as positive thinking, stress management, anger management, healthy living, looking after the self and happiness will be covered.

After each session, children receive work sheets with a variety of activities to help them continue their personal work. These will include mood diaries, goal sheets, vision planning, affirmations and exercises to practice at home.

Description: Little Stars Classes for children under 5 years old and their parent/carer.

Summer Play Programme

Description: We would like to announce our Summer programme throughout JULY

Aberdeen Play Forum’s Play Rangers will pop up in parks with their Loose Parts kit recyclable resources such aspipes, fabric and boxes which encourage children to tap into their imagination and lead their own play. We will also supply some fun, messy ingredients such as mud, gloop, foam, bubbles plus lots and lots of water! Old clothes, a towel and spare clothing to change into afterwards is highlyrecommended!

All ages welcome, most appeal to families with toddlers through to primary school age children.

All sessions are free of charge and there is no need to book.

Little Explorer Day: Make it Move

Description: This July, join Lightning McDeen on a bumpy ride to find out what makes it move! While you are on the Exhibition Floor, take part in our interactive story session and put things in motion with hands-on activities.

Each Little Explorer Day workshop lasts approximately 30 minutes and is supported by related activity tables on the Exhibition Floor.

Chapelton FON Fun Run

Here at Castle Fraser we are obsessed with all things Dragon! Dragonflies, and damselflies and of course fairy tale dragons.

Join us for the last day in our competition to choose a name for the Castle Fraser dragon. Come dressed as a dragon, damsel or dragonfly and you could win a prize.

Fancy dress will be drawn at 2:30pm.

Follow our dragonfly trail round the Flight pond and watch real dragonflies while you are there and finally come and make your own dragon crafts to take home, in the Log Cabin.

Our NEW Splat Slime workshops are aimed at children aged 6+ years who are interested in learning the techniques of making their own slime! The slime workshop allows the children to be as creative as they want with making different types of slime using all sorts of colours, textures and materials so the end result is everything they imagined! They will be able to make 2 slimes of their choice and take them home in a airtight container at the end of the class.

(We can make exceptions to allow younger children to attend the workshops but on the understanding that the parent/Carer must stay with the child/children)
