After a year away, our four day festival of dramatic projections and luminous sculptures is coming back to take over the city of Aberdeen this February 2020
Aberdeen’s SPECTRA Festival returns for 2020 with exciting outdoor light artworks that will be themed on Scotland’s national year of ‘Coast and Waters’
Bringing together leading international artists with Scottish collaborators and developing new talent, expect large scale pieces that take over a number of the city centre’s spaces, lighting up the dark nights of winter
No ticket required – installations across the weekend are FREE to attend.
Unless otherwise noted all installations are on from 6.30pm to 10.00pm. Where entry is applicable the last entry is 30mins before closing.
Please note given the nature of the works in a light festival there will be strobing and effects in some places that could impact on photosensitive individuals.

Stargazing Night at Strathbeg

Description: Winter nights can give amazing views of the night sky — stars, planets and (if you’re lucky) even the Northern lights! All you need is a clear night and somewhere away from street lights — and RSPB Loch of Strathbeg is a good place to start.
Come along and enjoy an evening of stargazing, joined by members of the Aberdeen Astronomical Society. Find out more about the wonders overhead and tune into the sounds of nature at night.

Description: Join us to tidy the beach at Rattray Head, right next door to the RSPB Loch of Strathbeg nature reserve.
We’ll be out between 10am and 1pm clearing what rubbish we can find. At 10am, we’ll meet at Rattray Head car park (at the end of the track signposted from just south of Crimond) and then head down to the beach and get started. Bags, gloves and litter pickers will be provided.
Wrap up warm and wear sturdy footwear, bring waterproofs, a snack and something to drink.

Kids Pottery Workshop – Treasure Pots at Aden Country Park

Description: Come and join us at Aden Country Park www.adencountrypark.org.uk we will be making decorated treasure pots. This workshop is suitable for children aged 8 +.
At the workshop you will make a decorated treasure pot from clay, you will also be able to add colour using our special glazes.
We can help with decoration ideas, but how about taking a little walk before the workshop and collecting some small leaves etc from the Park, (This is optional and not part of the Workshop) you can use them to press into the clay or make a relief pattern by pressing them into clay and cutting round them then sticking them to your pot.
After the workshop your beautiful Pots will then be dried, fired in our kiln then glazed and fired again. This takes about 3 weeks. You will be notified when your work is ready to collect from the venue.
The Workshop fee of £20 includes all materials, firing, aprons, delivery, and light refreshments.
Our pottery workshops make a fun friendly and relaxing experience. Come along with friends or bring just you. Either way come and have a great time getting creative!
Postage can be arranged if required. There is a £6 charge for this.
